February 1, 2012 Our peonies are all covered in a few feet of snow -good thing because it's nearly -40F and a few months away from spring!
We just got back from the Alaska Peony Growers Conference in Girdwood, and are greatly impressed with the direction our industry is headed. Producers of rootstock from out of state, flower buyers and new Alaska producers were all on hand to share ideas, stories and connect the dots of our industry. And, while summer seems so far away, it is time to start planning for 2012 production.
If you are a grower, we are interested in helping you market your stems - we sold for four producers this year with wonderful response. We are always willing to take time to listen to your farm plans and share insight on our production techniques - mainly how we would have done things differently if we wouldn't have been one of the first growers (lots of ways not to do things)! If you are a grower in Interior Alaska and would like to sell through us, please call or drop us an email to discuss details. We are interested in smaller growers as well as those of you with a few more in the ground!
If you are a wholesale or florist buyer, we have some new services for you. The new separate buyer pages, not available for viewing by the general public, are now available. This was a consistent request from our buyers last year - especially since we do not sell directly to retail end users. If you are interested in having access to these pages, please contact Carolyn at polarpeonies@gmail.com with your business name and location.
Expected available for 2012 starting week of July 8th through end of August - all double:
Sarah Bernhardt (pink)
Festiva Maxima - (white w/red fleck)
Felix Crousse (red)
Duchess De Orleans (pink)
Mon Jules Eli (pink)
Duchesse de Nemour (ivory white to pale blush)
dark pink/fuchsia
dark red
If you are a Bride: We sell directly to florists or wholesalers only, please have your local florists contact us for your wedding needs.
If you are in need of flowers after our season is over or if we are out, you can look for other Alaska producers on the Alaska Peony Growers Association website: http://alaskapeonies.org/
